Front office's approval won't change Robin Ventura's approach

DETROIT -- Robin Ventura appreciates the vote of confidence from Kenny Williams but said Saturday it won’t affect the way his staff operates.

On Friday, Williams, the White Sox executive vice president, said he doesn’t believe the White Sox manager or his staff is to blame for the team’s struggles. Ventura had said earlier Friday he feels he has strong support from Williams, general manager Rick Hahn and chairman Jerry Reinsdorf, all of who he’s in constant contact with. Ventura joked that Williams’ approval could be seen as a “kiss of death” before noting his appreciation.

“It’s nice but it doesn’t change our day to day,” Ventura said. “You come in here and all I know is that as a coaching staff, we work as hard as we can and get it going in the right direction and try to win today’s game.

“(Williams) knows what we’re doing in here and even at home, they come in and there are discussions going on so he is aware of how we’re working, talks everything else.

“We have very frank conversations of what’s going on with players and how we’re going about it. But that’s always been the case.”
