The only thing more impressive than Jose Abreu's historic April at the plate? His jersey sales in that same time frame.
According to Crain's Chicago Business, the White Sox slugger's No. 79 jersey debuted on the top-10 best selling MLB jerseys at Fanatics.com. According to the report, sales of his t-shirt and jersey have increased more than 200 percent since he broke the MLB record for RBI's in April on April 27. Crain's noted that there's usually little change in the top-10 from week-to-week, so Abreu's rise is certainly notable.
Robin Ventura told reporters before Wednesday's game against the Cubs that Abreu's excitement in the city is akin to Frank Thomas'.
"Maybe Frank. Back then they didn’t really sell jerseys like they do now," he said. "And I don’t know if Frank had a new jersey back then. We didn’t really get new jerseys back then. To get one was nice. But it’s fun. We’re enjoying it."
Abreu was named April's American League's Rookie of the Month and Player of the Month, the first time that's happened in MLB history.

Abreu finished his first month in the big leagues with 10 home runs, 32 RBIs and a .953 OPS. His memorable moments included a walk-off grand slam against the Tampa Bay Rays, three multi-HR games and tossing his glove with the ball stuck in it to record an out. Abreu is now up to 12 home runs, and the White Sox are 7-2 in games in which he goes yard.
