NEW YORK — The exploits of Marquis Jackson, Cameron Bufford and Pierce Jones have caught Robin Ventura’s attention.
On the eve of Jackie Robinson West Little League’s appearance in the U.S. championship game of the Little League World Series, the White Sox manager said Friday he has enjoyed the team’s run.
Coach Darrell Butler’s Jackie Robinson squad advanced to Saturday’s game with a 6-5 victory over Philadelphia on Thursday night in Williamsport, Pa. A victory over Las Vegas on Saturday would send Jackie Robinson to the Little League World Series championship on Sunday.
“It’s exciting,” Ventura said. “Any time a team, for us, you’re seeing a team from your home town. There was a lot of notoriety for the Philly team but for what our guys are doing you’re excited for them. Any time you get to the national scene and play in an environment like that it’s great for the kids and its something they’ll remember for the rest of their lives.
