The White Sox have acquired outfielder Gorkys Hernandez from the Kansas City Royals and assigned him to their Triple-A affiliate, the Charlotte Knights, according to a tweet from the Knight's Twitter account. The White Sox reportedly will send cash back to the Royals to complete the deal.

Hernandez will add outfield depth to the White Sox system after right fielder Avisail Garcia was diagnosed with a torn labrum in his left shoulder. Garcia, 22, will miss the rest of the regular season.

Hernandez, 26, has bounced around multiple organizations since signing with the Tigers in 2005, including Atlanta, Pittsburgh, Miami and Kansas City. He's been a part of four different trades, ranking as a top-100 prospect in 2008 and 2009 by both Baseball America and Baseball Prospectus. His most recent time in the Majors came in 2012, when he batted .192 with three home runs and 13 RBIs in 70 games with the Pirates and Marlins.
